This morning our band was officially welcomed by the Mayor of
Bietigheim-Bissingen, Herr Kessing.
District 99 presented to Mr. Kessing, on behalf of Downers Grove Mayor
Martin Tully, an official proclamation thanking the City of
Bietigheim-Bissingen for hosting our students for over 25 years, and
formally inviting the Musikschule to return to Downers Grove in future
years. Mr. Kessing was given a special banner from Mr. Tully.
Additionally, Mr. Teague and Mr. Williams presented Mr. Kessing with
gifts from District 99, including artwork by District 99 faculty
member Marty Voelker, a tour water bottle, and the official (and
uniquely stylish) tour shirt.
Mr. Kessing, and Musikschule Director Reimund Schiffer also presented
thank-you gifts to each of the District 99 conductors and adult
chaperones.
More meaningful than the material gifts exchanged were the sentiments
expressed by both Mr. Kessing and Mr. Williams; both reinforced the
importance of bringing together the youth of the world in positive
exchanges, as these experiences are seeds that - when nurtured -
blossom into peace between nations.
